Even though it might seem like a hard language to learn, the Turkish grammar is fairly easy to master. For starters, it is a phonetic language. This means that you can pronounce any Turkish word by reading each letter it is made out of. This goes the other way around as well. If you understand Turkish words, you can easily put words on paper by simply reproducing what you hear. Also, the Turkish language does not have any feminine or masculine forms for nouns which makes learning Turkish much easier.
But how can you make sure you don’t offend a Turk? It’s easy. Just make sure to address them properly. For example, when you first meet someone, make sure you use the formal “siz” which means “you” in English. You should only switch to the informal “sen” when you are invited to. But don’t worry too much about this if you’re just visiting Turkey. You can informally address shopkeepers or hotel clerks and they won’t get offended. Another way of being respectful to a Turkish speaker is by using a title before their name. Turkish people love titles so they have over 1000 of them. For example, you would address an aunt using the word “teyze”, an uncle with “amca” and an older sister with “abla”.
